For 45 years now, people have accused me of being an extrovert. I suppose they have their proof: I have no problem with public speaking, I am friendly and outgoing (boisterous, even, on occasion), I make friends easily, I talk a lot…the list goes on and on.
It’s a lie. I am an introvert, through and through.
The disparity comes from people’s lack of understanding what the real difference between and extrovert and an introvert really is: how we recharge, how we refuel, what calms us when we’re stressed, and what stresses us.
Extroverts recharge with other people. Introverts recharge alone.
Someone tweeted this today, and I was like – YES! That’s IT! So, this is for you, my introverted friends, who’ve been so misunderstood, and also for you, my extroverted friends – it’s not that I don’t love you, I just need to be left the hell alone sometimes!!

I am in the same boat as you, my friend. Introvert to the core, through and through. And the first time you told me this, I was shocked. But the more I thought about it, the more I could see you being an introvert as well. 🙂
Yeah, LOL, I remember you trying to argue me out of it.

Wow, sounds like you wrote this post about me. We are birds with similar feathers Suze. Many people see me as my Giggle persona but in reality I like my quiet time, I NEED my quiet time and when I am with extroverts in public I often withdraw. I do not require being the center of attention although, like you, I am not afraid to speak in public and I make friends easily. Thanks for keeping it real!
Girl – I had you pegged long ago. 🙂 I think I’m glad, though, that I’m this way…that recharging is something I accomplish by myself. Of course, as you know…recharging in THIS house is many times a challenge. But hey – I can always (and often do) put myself on time-out in my room. LOL
